Morocco and Mauritania renew agreement on fisheries and aquaculture – The cooperation agreement between Morocco and Mauritania in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors has been renewed until 2024.
Morocco’s Agriculture Minister Mohamed Sadiki and Mauritania’s Agriculture Minister Mohamed Abidine Mayif signed the agreement on 30 September on the sidelines of the first session of the joint Moroccan-Mauritanian Commission for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The agreement between the two countries, both members of the Committee on Eastern Central Atlantic Fisheries (CECAF), builds on previous collaborative commitments in key areas such as capacity building in sea fisheries, scientific and technological research, aquaculture and the sustainable exploitation of shared fisheries.
The two countries have also agreed to collaborate in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and again to strengthen maritime rescue processes and fight against pollution.
The signed agreement also aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of fisheries research.
