Technology, innovation and research at AquaFarm – Innovation is driving aquaculture towards the sustainability of the sector, while research is continuously finding solutions to improve our food safety and fish welfare. The appointment is on 14 and 15 February at Pordenone Fiere on the occasion of AquaFarm, the international exhibition and conference dedicated to aquaculture and the sustainable fishing industry organised in collaboration with API, the Italian Fish Farmers Association, and AMA, the Mediterranean Aquaculture Association.
The fair, as always, flanks the exhibition spaces with an extensive agenda of conferences and workshops dedicated to the most topical issues in the sector.
Today, aquaculture is universally recognised as an essential and fast-growing sector. However, its importance is accompanied by inherent challenges due to the number of influencing factors: technical, biological, environmental, economic and even social. Recognising the need for continuous innovation, particularly in production processes, the session dedicated to technological innovation in livestock farming will discuss new technologies that can optimise the entire supply chain. It will also discuss how Artificial Intelligence and data analysis plays a key role in improving efficiency and decision-making in aquaculture.
Feed has a significant impact on the aquaculture supply chain, both economically and in terms of environmental footprint. Regulating fishing waste for use as a basis for fish feed, new ingredients such as blue crab and insects, microalgae and agricultural production waste: at AquaFarm researchers and innovators will present projects with the important goal of making the industry more sustainable through optimisation and improvement of primary resources and ingredients. The appointment is with the session circularity and sustainability in feed production.
Research has always been the best ally for looking to the future. In the session dedicated to technologies and trends in research, researchers and experts from all over the world will present the latest developments in animal welfare in the entire breeding cycle, the use of fish skin in medical therapies, new selection methods and much more.
