At the Seafood Expo Global, the largest seafood trade event in the world, the top prizes in the 2023 Seafood Excellence Global awards were awarded to Unima Distribution.

Moreover, five special Seafood Excellence Global awards were presented. Clearwater Seafoods and Macduff Shellfish won the Health & Nutrition award for their Wild-Caught Whole Hebridean Langoustines. Unima’s Organic Body-Peeled Madagascar Shrimp also won the Convenience award.

The Innovation award was given to Vičiūnai Group for their Hot Smoked Salmon with Cheese and Pine Nuts.

Vega Salmon A/S was awarded the Retail Packaging prize for their Cold Smoked Salmon with Sustainable Packaging. Finally, the prize for Best Seafood Product Line went to Vilsund Blue for their Mussel Soups.

As anticipated, it’s worth noting that Unima Distribution, the winner of the Best HORECA (hotel/restaurant/catering) Product award, is an African company based in Madagascar. Unima Distribution’s premium Organic Body-Peeled Madagascar Shrimp, presented head- and tail-on with the body peeled, stood out among the competition and earned them the grand prize.

It’s an impressive achievement for a company from the African continent and demonstrates the potential for companies from all over the world to succeed in the global seafood industry.
