G7 Agriculture and Fisheries. Italy an international showcase for agribusiness – Innovation, cooperation with developing countries and reciprocity in trade to reaffirm the role of agriculture in the production of quality food and the management of territories. These are some of the themes at the centre of the G7 Agriculture and “Divination” Expo that will take place from 21 to 29 September in Syracuse, on the island of Ortigia, announced today during the launch press conference held in the Sala Cavour of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry. This is the first G7 in history dedicated not only to agriculture but also to fishing, one of the most strategic sectors for Italy and the country system.
“We want to show an Italy that is able to contribute from every point of view to the development of the planet together with the nations that make up the G7 but also with the developing countries of Africa. We will dialogue with agricultural associations, with the world of research and innovation, with young people, with our industry and our producers, not only of agriculture but also of fishing. Italy must increasingly find that vocation that allows us to be proud and aware of our value and the quality of our production,”
said the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco LollobrigidaFrancesco Lollobrigida, presenting the programme of the G7 Agriculture and ‘Divination Expo 24’.
Many guests had been announced, including the Commissioners for Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries of the European Parliament and the African Union, the heads of the three UN agencies in the Rome hub (FAO, IFAD, WFP), the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the CGIAR, a global partnership that unites international organisations involved in food security research.
In line with previous ministerial meetings of the G7 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting, the proceedings will be developed through four priority thematic areas identified by the Italian Presidency: science and innovation in agriculture for adaptation to climate change; the younger generations as agents of change in agriculture; the contribution of sustainable fishing and aquaculture to food security; and the G7’s contribution to the development of agriculture on the African continent.development of agriculture on the African continent.
From 21 to 29 September, Ortigia will host more than 150 meetings and conferences animated by the participation of more than 10 ministers and representatives of institutions and the agricultural world. A unique opportunity to reflect, discuss, and find the best solutions to protect our nation’s wine and food heritage, safeguard the identities and traditions of territories sculpted by man’s work, and offer those working in the agricultural sector certainty of an adequate income.
There will be about 200 stands and more than 600 companies representing national excellence in agriculture, fishing, aquaculture, and the nursery/forestry sector, as well as innovative technologies connected to fishing and agriculture, in addition to institutional and law enforcement stands.
G7 Agriculture Africa Forum
Africa will be at the centre of the first working session on 26 September, which will see the participation in Ortigia of a representation of African Agriculture Ministers from the various regions of the continent, invited in agreement with the African Union. The post-Malabo Agenda process and the implementation of the Agenda after 2025; investments in the agricultural sector in Africa and the strengthening of cooperation between the G7 and Africa in the agricultural sector will be the three main themes of the Forum.
Young Hackathon
Students from agricultural schools, teachers and young farmers representing the G7 countries will be directly involved in a meeting on the same issues prior to the Ministerial. During the working session on 27 September, the students will have the opportunity to present their findings and conclusions directly to the Ministers.
