AFRAQ24, the event dedicated to African aquaculture – From 19 to 22 November, the city of Hammamet, Tunisia, will become the international hub for aquaculture experts and enthusiasts with the third annual edition of the AFRAQ24 international conference and exhibition. Tunisia, the flagship of African aquaculture and one of the fastest developing countries in the sector, is set to host a major event that aims to further catalyse the sector’s growth on the continent.
Thanks to the patronage of the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and the support of numerous local institutions, AFRAQ24 promises to be a unique opportunity to discuss the progress of aquaculture in Africa. The event is expected to attract thousands of delegates from all corners of the globe, offering a privileged showcase on the achievements and persistent challenges holding back the sector’s rise.
This year’s theme, ‘Blue Farming: New Horizons for Economic Growth’, emphasises the importance of research, innovation and investment as drivers of sustainable development. Aquaculture, a vital component of the blue economy, presents itself as an area rich in untapped potential, capable of contributing significantly to food security and economic prosperity in Africa.
The AFRAQ24 agenda will consist of a series of sessions ranging from scientific presentations to trade exhibitions, from industry forums to thematic workshops, as well as student sessions and networking opportunities. The conference strives to provide an inclusive platform for debate and collaboration between industry professionals, researchers, investors and policy makers.
A special focus will be on guided tours, which will allow participants to explore the production realities of the host country up close. From fish farms specialising in marine fish, shellfish and seaweed, to fish processing and feed production plants, via research and development centres, visitors will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the world of Tunisian and African aquaculture.
AFRAQ24 is not just an event, but a turning point for African aquaculture, a meeting point between past, present and future, where tradition and innovation come together to draw new horizons of economic growth. The conference aims to be a catalyst for the industry, a place where ideas meet and collaborations come to life, with the ultimate goal of navigating towards a future where African aquaculture can flourish, fuelled by an increasingly sustainable, ethical and productive approach.
