Over 15,000 visitors at SIMEC

Over 15,000 visitors at SIMEC – The recently concluded third edition of the Saudi International Marine Exhibition (SIMEC) marked a momentous chapter in the aquaculture and fishing industry. The event attracted over 15,000 visitors and saw the signing of nine major agreements that promise to shape the future of this growing industry. Among the most significant agreements were partnerships and memoranda of understanding between major players in the industry, charting a new era of innovation and growth.

Some of these agreements represent the pinnacle of innovation and collaboration, such as the joint venture between Neom and Tabuk Fisheries Company, a major fish farmer in the Middle East. This partnership will support research on land-based and coastal aquaculture, paving the way for innovative and sustainable initiatives in the sector.

Equally relevant is the memorandum of understanding between Topian and Pure Salmon, which aims to build a terrestrial salmon RAS in the Kingdom, confirming the emphasis on technological innovation and sustainable production.

In addition, the National Livestock and Fisheries Development Programme has entered into agreements with both Topian and the National Aquaculture Group (NAQUA), with a focus on research and technological development, sustainable aquaculture practices in the Red Sea, and the creation of a national seafood market.

Saudi Arabia is determined to further strengthen its role in the seafood industry, with fish production exceeding 70,000 tonnes and aquaculture production growing to 140,000 tonnes in the past year.

Through ambitious plans, the aim is to reach 600,000 tonnes of seafood production by 2030, a target aimed at increasing food safety and seafood exports.

The show provided an opportunity to attract international attention and witnessed plans to involve more and more internationally renowned exhibitors in future editions, confirming the growing impact of the event on the global aquaculture and fisheries scene.

The participation of industry experts and international companies is a tangible testimony of the international interest in aquaculture in Saudi Arabia.

Ammar Al Ziter, CEO of City Events, expressed great satisfaction with the results, acknowledging that the exhibition had helped bring the country onto the international stage and pledging to attract more international exhibitors in future editions. The success of SIMEC is testament to the event’s catalytic role in facilitating direct and tangible collaboration in the global aquaculture industry.
